The Harry Green Invitational wasn’t the only track
action the Bridgeport High School track teams have
been involved with in recent days. In fact, the
Indians swept a four-team meet held on April 8 at the
“Track to the Future” complex at Wayne Jamison Field.
Bridgeport’s boys captured the win with 148 points to
get past second place Liberty, which had 94 points. On
the girls side, the Indians totaled 133 points, which
was more than enough to get past East Fairmont, which
posted 111 points. Along with the Mountaineers and the
Bees, Lewis County also took part in the meet.
All of the Tribe’s first place finishes for the boys
came in the hurdle events, relays and field events.
Matt Fischer was first in the 110 meter hurdles. He
had a time of 17.53 seconds.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Phillip McElfresh was
victorious. He posted a time of 46.57 seconds.
In relay action, the 4x100, with a mark of 47.07
seconds, and 4x400 meter relay teams, with a time of 3
minutes, 49.4 seconds, found their way to the winner’s
circle. The 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle relay team also
was a winner with a time of 1 minute, 3.14 seconds.
In the high jump, Matt Wilson was a winner with a jump
of 6 feet and 2 inches. Chris Hampton was the winner
in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet and 1 inch,
while Ryan Swaggerty won the discus with a throw of114 feet.
On the girls side, sprints, hurdles and field events
produced the first place finishes. Several ot the
girls were multiple winners.
In the sprints, Lauren Gilbert won the 200 and 400
meter dashes. In the 200, Gilbert had a time of 27.76
seconds, while she ran the 400 in 1 minute and 3.98seconds.
Sarah Abbate continued her dominance in the 100 meter
hurdles. She won with a time of 17.81 seconds.
Rachel Williams also had a big day for the Tribe. She
was the high jump winner with a mark of 5 feet, while
also winning the long jump with a distance of 15 feetand 5.5 inches.
In discus, Valan Daniel was the winner. She had a toss
of 87 feet, 6 inches.
