The Harry Green Invitational wasn't the only meet the
Bridgeport track teams were involved in last week. The
Indians also hosted a smaller home meet April 12. The
boys and girls teams both rolled to wins in that meet.
The girls won with a total of 155 points in the
eight-team field. The boys were even more impressie
with a winning mark of 214 points.
On the girls side, the win was the result of placing
individuals throughout the finals in several
individual and relay events. BHS managed just three
wins - all individual wins - during the meet.
Sarah Abbate won the 100 meter hurdles (16.9 seconds),
while Kendall McCaugherty won the high jump (5 feet, 5
inches). The other win came in the discus where Emily
Carmichel's toss of 85 feet, 2 inches was the best.
For the boys, the theme was a familiar one. Matt
Wilson was simply too much for the rest of the field.
Wilson won four individual events during the meet.
Wilson took wins in the 110 hurdles (15.49 seconds),
the 300 hurdles (41.55 seconds), the high jump (6
feet, 2 inches) and the long jump (20 feet, 5.25
inches).
Sam Romano won two events. He was tops in the discus
(132 feet, 5 inches) and shot put 42 feet, 2.5
inches).
Other individual wins came from Philip McElfresh in
the 100 meter dash (11.53 seconds) and Nick Green in
the pole vault (12 feet).
The Tribe also won three relay events. Winning was the
4x100 team of Alex McElfresh, Steven Lewis, P.
McElfresh and Jeff Weimer (45.02 seconds); the 4x200
team of A. McElfresh, Lewis, Wesley Eades and Weimer
(1 minute, 35.38 seconds); and the shuttles team of
Grant Burton, P. McElfresh, D'Andre Parker and Justin
Findley (1 minute, .86 seconds).
