APRIL 4, WEEK II

It should have been the third track meet of the season
on Tuesday. Instead, it was the only meet this year
that hadn’t been disrupted by unruly weather.
Last week’s meet (March 26) at
Lincoln was once again
shortened to inclement weather. It marked the second
time in as many weeks that
Bridgeport’s track teams
couldn’t complete a meet.
“It’s a shame the weather hasn’t cooperated more for
us,” said boys coach Jon Griffith. “The kids are
anxious to compete.”
The coaches are also anxious to see them compete.
Although the teams have plenty of practice time under
their belts,
Griffith knows there is no substitute for
performance in actual competition.
“Without having completed a meet, there are a lot of
unanswered questions,” said
Griffith.
In the shortened meet, a few of the boys managed to
take first place finishes. In the long jump, Chris
Hampton won with a mark of 19 feet, 10 inches.
Two others also took first place in the shortened
meet. Tim Lindsey won in the discus with a toss of 113
feet, while Joe Ielapi won the 110 meter high hurdles
with a time of 16.4 seconds.
Bridgeport’s second home meet of the season was held
Tuesday. The Indians went up against
Morgantown,
Preston, Grafton, Lincoln and Bridgeport.
Girls coach Jim Dawson could not be reached for
comment or for results of the girls meet.
Also,
Bridgeport Middle School's track team will
return to action today at
4 p.m. The Braves will host
Elkins,
Salem, Gore, South Harrison, Taylor County and
Washington Irving.
