BMS Charleston Meet

Bridgeport Middle School's boys and girls track teams
rolled to a track and field sweep at a meet held last
week in Charleston.
The BMS boys won their portion of the five-team meet
easily with 165 points. That total was well ahead of
Belpre, Ohio, which finished in second place with 120
points. Williamstown and Ritchie County both were next
with 92 points.
Bridgeport's girls team also cruised to the winner's
circle with 236 points. Van Devender Middle School was
well of that pace with 131 points, while Ritchie
County was third with 84 points.
For the boys, Josh Brown had another huge afternoon
for the Braves. He won four events, including the 100,
200 and 400 meter events, while also posting the
winning mark in the long jump.
Heath Haws won the 3200 meter run, while taking fourth
in the pole vault. The pole vault was won by the
Braves' Nathan Schwenk.
Zack Wright won the 65 meter hurdles, while taking
third in the 200 meter hurdles. Jonathon Fischer had a
third place finish in the 800 meters, while taking
fourth in the 400 meters. Adam Queen was second in
discus.
The Braves had two first place finishes in the relay
events. The 4x100 team of Tanner Moore, Mitch Ogden,
Alec Taylor and Jeremy Sheppard was victorious, while
the 4x800 group of Fischer, Nick Green, Matt Larosa
and Andrew Hoover also won.Several youngsters had big
afternoons for the Braves. Jenna Fogg continued her
strong efforts with a first place finish in the high
jump and second place finishes in the 800, 1600 and
3200 meter events. Schelby Bordner was just as solid
with first place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter
dashes, while taking second in the 400 meter event.
Kate Bishop also had a pair of first place finishes as
she won the 75 meter hurdles and the 200 meter
hurdles. She also was second in shot put.
Kasie Carbacio had two first place wins. She won the
discus and the 1600 meter event.
In the long jump, Kendall McCaugherty was the winner.
Taking a pair of second place finishes for the Braves
was Victoria Gorby with a second place in the 200
meter and Maria Sellas with a leap in the pole vault.
Several of the relay teams took first place. In the
4x100 the team of Carbacio, Sellas, Gorby and Whitney
Rhoades was a winner. The 4x200 unit of Rhoades,
Sellas, McCaugherty and Chelsey Carey also came in
first.
In the 4x400 Cassie Schneider, Megan Dent-Carmen,
Jennifer Allastanos and Sara Claprood posted the
winning time. The 4x800 team of Schneider, Allastanos,
Dent-Carmen and Rhoades was also victorious.
The shuttles team joined the rest as a winner. The
group of Tiffany Oldaker, Brandy Findley, Haleigh
James and McCaugherty took top honors.
"Overall I thought the meet went very well for both
teams. It is always good for the kids to get out and
run at different facilities," said BMS coach Rob
Riley.
