The BMS girls game in fifth in the meet, while the boys were seventh. The meet consisted of 15 of the state’s top middle school track and field teams. “If there were such a thing as a middle school state championship meet, then the winning teams were probably performing at this meet,” said BMS coach Rob Riley. “The field was very strong in both divisions ... It’s humbling to go to a meet of this stature.” Several individuals posted personal bests at the event. Among them on the girls side was Jenna Fogg, who helped the girls take 57.5 points. Fogg took first place in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches and took a pair of third place finishes in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Fogg also was fifth in the 800 meter event. “She can hold her own against anybody,” said Riley. The 4x800 girls team took second with a time of 11 minutes, 10 seconds. The team consisted of Whitney Rhoades, Megan Dent-Carmen, Jennifer Allastanos and Cassie Schneider. Kendall McCaugherty also took third place in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 10 inches. On the boys side, Zach Wright was solid in helping the Braves get 44 points. He placed third in the 65 meter high hurdles event with a time of 1.25 seconds and was fifth in the 200 meter hurdles. Wright was also a member of the second place shuttle hurdle relay team. All the BMS relay teams fared well during the competition. Nathan Schwenk continued his strong efforts in the pole vault. Schwenk cleared 10 feet, a new school record, to take third place at the event. Adam Queen was third in the shot put. His toss covered 36 feet, 11.5 inches. “I was pleased with the way both teams performed,” said Riley. The teams will be off until next Tuesday, May 20. At that time, the squads will wrap up the season with the Harrison County Championship at BHS. On May 7, a middle school meet to be held at Wayne Jamison Field was canceled. Meet organizers opted to scratch the meet due to inclement weather. Earlier this year, a meet was ended after a handful of events due to bad weather. In the Mid-State Classic May 3, BMS boys finished second with 100 points. The girls were second with 102 points. Fogg set a new school record in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. It won the event. Meet organizers provided no individual results for publication. |
