An April 30 middle school track and field meet at
Wayne Jamison Field was shortened due to lightning.
However, in the few events that were completed,
Bridgeport Middle School dominated the field.
Both the BMS boys and girls were well ahead of the
competition when the meet was called. On the girls
side, after six events, the Braves were leading with
84 points. That was well ahead of second place
Lumberport Middle with 49 points in the five-team
meet.
The BMS girls won five of the six events that were
completed. Kate Bishop won the 75 meter event with a
time of 14.11 seconds, Kendall McCaugherty won the
long jump with a mark of 14 feet, 1 inch, while Kasie
Carbacio won the discus with a toss of 79 feet, 11
inches.
Also winning was the 4x200 and 4x800 meter relay
teams. The 4x200 team of Maria Sellas, Kendally
McGaherty, Whitney Rhoades and Chelsea won with a time
of 2 minutes, 3.24 seconds, while the 4x800 team of
Megan Dent-Carmen, Cassie Schneider, Jennifer
Allastnos and Rhoades won with a time of 11 minutes,
25.65 seconds.
The boys managed to get in just five events. The
Braves led the way with 63 points, which was safely
ahead of Washington Irving’s 31 points in the
five-team boys portion.
Like the girls, the boys won all but one of the
completed events. Josh Brown won the 100 meter dash in
12.93 seconds, Zach Wright took first in the 65 meter
hurdles with a time of 11.27 seconds, while Nathan
Schwenk won the pole vault by clearing 9 feet.
The Braves 4x200 team also won. The group of Mitch
Strader, Tanner Moore, Alec Taylor and Jeremy Shepard
posted a time of 1 minute, 53.23 seconds.
The Braves boys and girls were both second in a meet
held Saturday at Glenville State College. However,
results of that meet were not available at press time.
