In a meet held April 19, the Bridgeport Middle School Braves girls topped
Doddridge County 94-76, while the boys fell 101.5 to 775.
Kendall McCaugherty was the big winner for BMS on the girls side by winning
all four of her events. She won the 100 meter dash (13.93 seconds), the 75
meter hurdles (13.75 seconds), the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) and the long
jump (16 feet, 1 inch).
Kasie Carbacio won two first places in the meet. She won the 400 meter dash (1
minute, 8.2 seconds) and the discus (77 feet, 10 inches).
Schelby Bordner and Maria Sellas were the other individual winners. Bordner
won the 200 meters (29.35 seconds), while Sellas won the pole vault (7 feet).
BMS dominated the relays. The team won four of the five events.
The 4x100 team of Sellas, Cassie Abbate, Holly Breedlove and Kristen Maraney
won in 58.94 seconds; the 4x200 team of Sellas, Sarah Claprood, Abbate and
Breedlove won in 2 minutes, 6.39 seconds, the 4x400 team of Claprood, Jen
Alastanos, Chelsea Swain and Whitney Rhoades won in 4 minutes, 47.22 seconds;
while the shuttles team of Tiffany Oldaker, Courtney Steele, Taryn Rose and
Mariah Howell posted a winning time of 45.89 seconds.
For the boys, Wes Eades had the big afternoon. Eades won the 200 meter dash
(25.44 seconds), the 400 meters (57.48 seconds) and the 200 meter hurdles
(29.67 seconds).
Bryant Irwin and Tanner Moore picked up individual wins. Irwin won the high
jump at 5 feet, 2 inches, while Moore’s mark of 16 feet, 8 inches won the long
jump.
BMS won just one hurdle event. The Braves team of John West, Daniel Coles,
Bryce Harbert and Irwin won the 65 meter shuttles in 46.26 seconds.
The Braves were scheduled to have a meet last Friday in Charleston. However,
no information on that meet had been provided by press time.
