The Bridgeport Middle School girls and boys track
teams continued their dominance as both teams took
first place in a recent meet hosted by
Washington
Irving Middle School
.
The boys finished with 167.5 points to edge out the
hosts with 133.5 points in the seven-team meet held at
Robert C. Byrd

High School. The girls demolished the
competition with 202 points to 51 points by second
place
Salem.
The boys first place winners included Matt Wilson with
a jump of 5 feet, 11 inches in the high jump; the
4x800-meter relay team with a time of 10 minutes and
35.44 seconds; Kyle Lanham in the 800 meters with a
time of 2:32.2; the 4x400-meter relay team with a time
of 4:32.0; the 4x200-meter relay team with a time of
1:51.22; and Andrew Cunningham in the 400-meter event
with a mark of 1:02.61.
The girls had a number of first place finishers on
their side of the meet. The club also had a
1-2-3
finish in the 100-meter dash.
In that event Lauren Gilbert won with a time of 13.40.
She was followed by Elizabeth Saliga (13.64) and Kayla
Lynch (13.97).
Jenna Fogg dominated in the long distance events. She
won both the 1600-meter (6:07.94) and the 3200-meter
(13:27.25) runs.
Other first place finishes include Alissa Murphy
(68’11”) in the discus; the 4x800-meter relay team
(11:33.7); Amanda Fischer (2:49.6) in the 800-meter
event; Saliga (14’4.5”) in the long jump; and the
4x100-meter relay team (57.6).
Both the boys and the girls will go up against some of
the stiffest competition of the year tomorrow as they
take part in the McKinley Invitational. The meet will
be held at
Charleston’s Laidley Field.
