Inclement weather forced the postponement of the
Harrison County Middle School Track and Field
Championship that was set for Monday at Wayne Jamison
Field. The meet was moved to yesterday at
4 p.m.
Read next week's edition of The Bridgeport News for
complete details on the meet.
The weather didn't play a part in last week's action.
In the Braxton County Invitational (the Mid-State
Classic), BMS saw both its boys and girls team finish
second.
The girls were seven points behind
Taylor County,
while the boys finished 10.5 behind of Buckhannon.
The girls ran without leading scorer Lauren Gilbert.
However, the club was still strong.
"Many girls ran their personal bests," said coach Rob
Riley. "You couldn't ask for anything else."
Amanda Fischer was first in the 400, the 800 and a
member of the winning 4x800-meter relay team. Marie
Conley was first in the 200-meter hurdles, while
Elizabeth Saliga was first in the long jump and a
member of the winning 4x200-meter team.
Along with Fischer in the 4x800, Jenna Fogg, Kara
Miller and Kayla Maloney took part. Saliga was joined
in the 4x200 by Jackie Kapp, Lara Gallagher and
Victoria Gorby.
The boys also found second place hard to swallow.
Riley said the meet did not have a pole vault
competition, which is something the Braves general
place several athletes in.
“For some reason,
Braxton County decided to eliminate
the pole vault,” said Riley.
Matt Wilson and A.J. Paletta took the only individual
first place finishes.
Wilson won the high jump, while
Paletta took the 100-meter dash.
The 4x200-meter team of Paletta, Wilson, Nicholas
Sellas and Travis Belasco and the 4x400 team of Guy
Nicholson, Andrew Cunningham, Kyle Lanham and Jon
Fischer also won.
