Bridgeport Middle School’s girls and boys track teams
didn’t take first place wins at Friday’s McKinley
Invitational in Charleston. However, the Braves were
more than just competitive.
BMS’ girls finished second in the 11-team meet, while
the boys took home a fourth-place slot.
The Braves posted 129.3 points in the girls portion.
They trailed Horace Mann’s “A” team, which finished
with 178 points.
No other teams were close. Following those two
schools,
Hayes Middle School was third with 60.3
points.
On the girls side, Lauren Gilbert once again had a big
day for the Tribe. She managed to take a pair of first
place individual finishes, while also grabbing an
individual second in the meet.
Gilbert won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute
and 3.5 seconds. She also won the 200-meter dash in
28.3 seconds, while taking second in the 100-meter
dash.
Two other Braves also took individual wins. Jenna Fogg
won the 1600-meter run with a time of 6 minutes and
6.92 seconds, while Marie Conley won the 75-meter
hurdles with a time of 14.1 seconds.
For the boys, their total of 68.5 trailed John Adams
(125), McKinkley (86.5) and Central Catholic (84). The
boys stayed competitive despite not taking first in
any events.
The Braves did manage three second place finishes led
by Matt Wilson.
Wilson took second in both the long
jump and the high jump.
BMS also finished second in the 4x800-meter relay
event. The Braves posted a time of 10 minutes and 6.8
seconds.
The Braves return to action today with a home meet.
They host
South Harrison, Salem,

Gore, Braxton County,
Buckhannon and Lumberport.
