Cross Country Note
From the Sept. 5 edition of The Bridgeport News

The 2002 Bridgeport High School Cross Country campaign
will get underway Saturday when the Indians take part
in the St. Marys Autumn Classic.
The meet will be the first of 12 meets this season the
cross country team will take part in. BHS, under the
direction of coach Julie Hartley, is looking to build
the program into one of the best in the state.
Meghan Shepherd and Kate Merriner are being counted on
for leadership on the girls side of the slate. On the
boys side, senior Brant Edgell and sophomore Ben Booth
look to lead the way, said Hartley.
The 2002 slate will mark the first time in the
program’s relatively short history that it will host a
home meet. That meet, on Sept. 25, will be held at Bel
Meadow Country Club. That meet will be called the
Bridgeport Indians Freedom Run.
