The 2002 Cross Country Campaign didn’t start the way
the Indians probably would have liked.
Both the boys and the girls came in last in the Class
AA-A portion of the St. Marys Autumn Classic. The
girls came in 12th, while the boys were 13th.
The girls posted a team time of 2 hours, 35 minutes
and 27.0 seconds. The average runner's time was 31
minutes, 5.4 seconds.
Meghan Shepherd was the top BHS runner in the
90-person field with a time of 30 minutes, 55.36
seconds. She came in 84th.
Kelly Folio was 86th. She had a time of 31 minutes,
11.25 seconds.
Grafton won the event, while Doddridge County came in
second. Ritchie County rounded out the top three on
the girls side of the slate.
For the boys, Benjamin Booth led the way by finishing
49th in the 100-person field. Both posted a time of 19
minutes, 52.87 seconds.
Nick Green came in 63rd with a time of 20 minutes,
55.28 seconds.
The team's combined time was 1 hour, 49 minutes and
3.31 seconds. The average time was 21 minutes and
48.67 seconds.
"I am pleased with the performance of our team for the
first meet. I do believe it was an eyeopener," said
coach Julie Hartley. "I also feel we need to step it
up a tad and I would predict my runners would agree.
We are fortunate to have such a great group of kids on
our team along with the parental and school support."
Ravenswood won the boys portion of the event. Oak Glen
was the runner-up, while the Bearcats were the third.
