Although the club continued to struggle heading into
yesterday’s first-ever home meet, Bridgeport’s cross
country teams continued to show improvement.
The boys came in 12th out of 14 teams during
Saturday’s Forest Festival Invitational. The girls
finished 10th out of 10 teams participating in the
weekend event in Elkins.
On the boys side of the slate, Ben Booth led the way
with a time of 21 minutes and 54 seconds. That was
good enough to come in 55th out of 102 runners.
Travis Belosco was the next Indian runner to cross the
finish line. His time of 22 minutes and 27 seconds was
good enough for 65th place.
Elkins won the boys event, while East Fairmont was
second. Ritchie County rounded out the top three.
Leading the way for the BHS girls was Kate Merinar
with a time of 24 minutes and 49 seconds. That was
good enough to finish 18th out of 67 participants.
Megan Shepherd came in 54th in the event. She posted
at time of 30 minutes and 22 seconds.
Elkins completed the sweep of the event by taking
first place on the girls side. East Fairmont was
second in the girls as well, while Doddridge County
came in third.
The Indians were in action yesterday in the first-ever
Bridgeport High School Indians Freedom run held at Bel
Meadow Country Club. Read about the meet, as well as
Saturday's meet at Braxton County, in next week's
edition of The Bridgeport News.
