Although the boys or girls team didn't win the meet,
the first-ever home meet for the Bridgeport Cross
Country teams - the Freedom Run - proved to be a
success.
Runners from several area schools took part in the
competition held at the Bel Meadow Country Club last
Wednesday.
The Grafton girls and boys teams once again proved
their dominance in sports related to running. The
Bearcats swept to wins in both divisions.
Megan Docherty was the top individual female performer
with a time of 22 minutes and 32 seconds. She was
followed by Racehl Mallory of Buckhannon-Upshur with a
time of 22 minutes and 49 seconds for secondplace.
Bridgeport's Kate Merinar was third in the event. The
talented youngster posted a time of 22 minutes and 51
seconds to just finish out of second place.
On the boys side, Grafton's Scott Gemberling posted
the best time of the day. He finished the course in 18
minutes flat, while B-U's Tim Andrews was second with
a time of 18 minutes and 8 seconds.
Brant Edgell was the top BHS finisher. He came in 11th
with a time of 19 minutes and 55 seconds. He was
followed across the finis line by teammate Ben Booth
with a time of 20 minutes and 15 seconds.

a time of 21 minutes and 8 seconds.
Although the individual teams didn't compete in
Saturday's Chic-Fil-A Invitational in Mineral Wells,
several individuals did run in the event.
