Things continue to look up for Bridgeport freshman
cross country runner Jenna Fogg. One week after Fogg
dominated the Harrison County Cross Country
championships, she made a solid showing in the always
competitive Big 10 championships.
Last Thursday, at the Taylor County Fairgrounds, Fogg
managed to place fifth in the impressive field. Fogg
posted a time of 22 minutes and nine seconds.
Despite her efforts, the BHS girls came in last in the
four-team field. The Indians totaled 81 points, which
was well of the winning pace of 21 by Grafton.
“I was pleased with the finish, but it could have been
better,” said Fogg.
Fogg’s efforts also earned her a spot on the all-Big
10 Conference team.
Tedi Derrickson placed 16th for BHS with a time of 26
minutes and 8 seconds, while Kelly Folio and Melissa
Spear were 19th and 20th, respectively, with times of
28 minutes and 44 seconds and 29 minutes and 27
seconds.
The boys also came in the final position. BHS was
fifth in the five-team boys portion of the meet with
124 points, well behind the Bearcats’ winning total of
35.
Bridgeport did not have a runner finish in the top 20
of the event. However, Brandon Smith did come in 22nd
with a time of 22 minutes and 15 seconds for the top
BHS finish on the boys side.
The boys and girls will try to qualify runners today.
The Class AA-A regional will be held at Apple Valley’s
cross country course in Marion County.
Fogg appears to have the best chance to make the state
tournament field. However, she'll have to improve her
time to make that happen.
"I have to place in the top eight," said Fogg. "I am
ranked 12th (in the region) right now."
Bridgeport coach Julie Hartley, who could not be
reached for comment, was named the girls coach of the
year. The honor was voted on by the league’s coaches.
Hartley, once again, could not be reached for comment. |
