For the second straight year, Bridgeport High School’s
boys and girls cross country teams were unable to
qualify a member to compete in this week’s West
Virginia Cross Country Championships.
The Indians came in last in both divisions at
Thursday’s Class AA-A Region II championship that was
held at the Apple Valley Golf Course that is located
in
Marion County. Grafton’s boys won the competition,
while
Doddridge County’s girls were the overall
winners on that side of the gender ledger.
Bridgeport's girls totaled 127 points. The Bulldogs
managed to win the girls with 40 points.
Freshman Jenna Fogg just missed qualifying by coming
in 12th with a time of 7 minutes and 15.1 seconds. The
top eight runners qualified. The eight place finisher
in the girls posted a time of 7 minutes, .1 seconds.
Tedi Derrickson was next for BHS. She came in 28th in
the 39-person field with a time of 8 minutes and 20.3
seconds.
On the boys side
Bridgeport finished with 148 points.
Grafton won with 36.
Ben Booth, a junior, was the top runner for the
Indians. He finished 30th in the 47-member field with
a time of 6 minutes and 35.1 seconds.
